Discovering Chinese Cuisine

What do Chinese Restaurants Have in Common that depicts their Art and Culture?

  1. Red and Gold (yellow) in their dining places. Have you noticed how Chinese restaurants are decorated in red and gold? Colour in the Chinese culture refers to specific values. Many businesses, such as restaurants decorate their dining places in red and gold or yellow because these colors are associated with good fortune.
  2. Almost similar names in businesses. The words golden, fortune, luck, garden, dynasty, palace are words you will usually find in Chinese business names. The choice of business name is highly associated with the owner’s desire to succeed the business. By giving it a name that associates to success, it actually invites good fortune in.
  3. Chinese Cuisine. You wouldn’t call it Chinese restaurant if they did not serve Chinese food, right? The most popular food you will get from Chinese restaurants is Chinese noodles, dumplings, soup, and their famous Peking duck. While not all of them serve fortune cookies, there are actually some Chinese restaurants in New York that give their customers fortune cookies for dessert. You can also get green tea as a freebie in some restaurants.

In my own experience, dining in Chinese restaurants has always been a good experience. I love the art that welcomes me at every visit. The red and gold colors, the dragon and the fortune cookies are my favorites. I love the food as a whole. But what I love the most are the staff that really treats you well.
