Solo Studio-Watch Series

17 October - 29 November: Chantal Rousseau

Chantal Rousseau's mixed-media installation And now let us weep for the lovely lovely ladies of CSI probes the predatory impulse that underpins the popular Crime Scene Investigation TV series, with its overheated pairing of forensic science and sexuality. Monochrome ink drawings and video animation portray the show's female victims, accompanied by imagined, totemic animal bystanders, with Rousseau's customary unflinching deadpan humour.

SPECIAL EVENT

A Round-Table Salon for the Solo Studio-Watch Series will be presented on Sunday 8 November, starting at 2 pm, with the six participating artists in discussion with Art Centre Chief Curator/Curator of Contemporary Art Jan Allen. The artists are: Michael Davidge, Dorene Inglis, Erika Olson, Chantal Rousseau, Su Sheedy, and Lisa Visser. The Round-Table will be followed by a reception and the launch of a publication documenting the series.

The Solo Series presents a glimpse into the current production of Kingston's visual and media art through presentation of a single work in the Art Centre's Etherington House Study. The series builds on our use of the Etherington House for extraordinary contemporary art installations.
