In a stunning array of images, nineteen photographers explore the changing urban environment and evolving economies in the City of Kingston and the surrounding area. The exhibition presents a range of approaches to using the camera to document, describe and critically engage with this locale. Numerous themes emerge in the show, but most evident is the role played by Kingston's waterfront in the region's economy and identity. Exposures probes shifting patterns of tourism and transportation, and the displacement of heavy industry by the service, retail and knowledge-industry sectors. Change across the city is charted through cycles of abandonment and revitalization, which are at times dramatic, and at others so incremental as to nearly escape notice.
Featured artists are: Amy Allcock, Simon Andrew, Jeff Barbeau, Deborah Brown, Bernard Clark, Sharman Brooks, Randy deKleine-Stimpson, Niki Kaloudas, Bruce Millen, Chris Miner, Jennifer Roche, Andrew Sims, Nathalie Sorensen, Krysia Spirydowicz, Melody Tomkow, Lisa Visser, Bill Weedmark, Alan Wilkinson, and Tristan Willis.
The Exposures opening reception takes place on Friday, 14 November, 7 to 9 pm. The artists will be present and awards for outstanding achievement will be presented.
