Première Series

4 December 2004 - 13 February 2005
Part of the ongoing Première series, Precarious features recent additions to the Art Centre's contemporary art holdings on the theme of vulnerability. While Betty Goodwin's stunning sculpture, Support for a Blue Heart, is the thematic linchpin of the show, the scope of reference moves beyond the individual body and spirit in works by John Dickson, Ed Pien, Joanne Tod, and Natalie Waldburger. Pieces by Dickson and Waldburger confront the imminent or historic accident, while Pien's painting addresses environmental degradation. Tod's beautifully rendered A Diamond is Forever rounds out the show with droll comment on the fleeting nature of human values and aspirations.
